Terms of use

It is a tool. Use it responsibly.

What you are agreeing to

By downloading, installing or using Cepther you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

What Cepther is

Cepther is a desktop application that drives a set of open source download tools. It fetches media that a website is already serving to your computer. It does not break encryption, bypass paywalls, defeat DRM, or unlock anything a site is not already prepared to hand over.

What you are responsible for

You are responsible for what you download and how you use it.

  • Respect the terms of service of every site you download from. Some sites restrict automated downloading.
  • Respect copyright. Downloading a file does not transfer copyright to you.
  • Use it for your own content, for material you have permission to keep, for anything in the public domain or under a licence that allows it, and for whatever your local law recognises as fair or personal use.
  • Do not redistribute, resell or publish other people’s work without permission or another lawful basis.
  • Follow the law where you live. It differs from country to country, and this page cannot tell you what applies to you.

No warranty

Cepther is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose and non infringement. Source sites can change, downloads may fail, and files may not work with every player.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the author is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Cepther. That includes lost files, lost time, storage filled up, bandwidth used, action taken against you by a website, or any claim brought by a rights holder. You use it at your own risk.

Third party tools

Cepther drives several independent open source projects, each with its own licence and its own authors. Those projects are credited on the credits and licences page. They are not affiliated with Cepther, they do not endorse it, and nothing here alters their licences or creates any obligation on their part.

The sites you use it on

Cepther is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of the websites it can read. Site names are used only to describe what the app can do. Any trademarks belong to their owners.

Cost

Cepther is free. There is no paid tier, no trial, no licence key and no feature held back behind a payment. Use the download links provided on this website when a public build is available.

Updates and availability

Download tool updates are installed when you choose. The planned app updater will also require your choice to install a release. Availability and continued development are not guaranteed.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the app changes. The current version always lives on this page with the date at the top, and significant changes will be identified.

Not legal advice

These terms do not determine whether a particular download is lawful. Copyright rules differ by jurisdiction.
