Cepther / Features

What Cepther can do

01

Getting links in

Paste a link

Download video or audio from a supported page.

Bulk downloads

Paste several links at once, one per line.

Import a text file

Load a .txt file containing the links you want to download.

Playlists and channels

Choose individual playlist items or download the full selection with shared quality settings.

Clipboard monitor

Get a download prompt when you copy a supported link. Downloads start when you choose.

Images and galleries

Download photos, galleries and supported posts with both images and video.

Wait for a premiere

Opt in to wait for a scheduled video and download it when it becomes available. This applies to links you submit manually; scheduled live streams are excluded.

Remembers recent fetches

Paste the same link again within six hours and it opens straight away. A download also reuses what the picker already found instead of checking the link twice.

02

Choose your download

Every format listed

See every format the source offers, grouped by resolution, with its container, codec, frame rate, bitrate and estimated size.

Matching audio

Each video format is paired with audio that suits its container, so the file is saved as MP4 or WEBM without converting it.

Filters

Narrow the list by format, resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate or language. Turn on MP4 only to see just the formats that finish as MP4.

Format details

Open any format to read everything the source reports about its video and audio before you choose.

Video or audio

Choose a video or an audio file, with optional settings for each download.

Best Output

Get the best quality the source offers, using your saved container preference.

Rename before download

Choose the filename before saving.

Video containers

Choose from available MP4, WEBM and MKV options. Support depends on the source and its codecs.

Pause and resume

Pause a download and resume it when the source supports it. Temporary files must still be available.

Multiple audio tracks

Keep selected audio languages in a compatible video container.

03

Audio

Seven output formats

Save as MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG or OPUS, with quality settings for the selected format.

Cover art

Choose whether to embed the thumbnail as cover art.

Metadata

Include available title, artist, album and date information.

Extract audio

Save just the audio from a supported video.

MP3 only

Pick an MP3 at 320, 256, 192 or 128 kbps, made from the best audio the source has.

04

Speed and network

Multi Threaded downloads

Use up to 16 parallel connections where supported. Adjust the count or switch it off.

Concurrent downloads

Download up to 16 items at once. Set a lower limit whenever you need to.

Speed limit

Set a download speed limit globally or for an individual download.

Sleep between items

Set a gap between download starts in the queue. A single download still starts straight away.

Proxy support

Use HTTP or SOCKS proxies with profiles for different sites.

Network binding

Bind downloads to a network adapter, with a kill switch that stops them if the selected connection fails.

05

Creator Watch

Follow creators

Add a channel or profile to check for new uploads.

Per account settings

Choose the check interval, download quality and filters for each account.

Download or notify

Download new uploads automatically, or receive a notification. Automatic downloads skip uploads you already have.

Catch up on uploads

Find new uploads you missed or ignored and download them later.

Multiple accounts

Keep one creator’s accounts from different platforms together.

Checks while open

Creator Watch runs while Cepther is open, including in the system tray. Quitting stops the checks.

06

The floating dock

Download while browsing

Read the active browser tab’s address from an always visible dock.

Saved links

Save links for later, add tags and download them when you are ready.

Per site profiles

Set a preferred format and quality for each site.

Clipboard fallback

Use a copied link when the browser address cannot be detected.

07

Live streams

Choose when to begin recording.

Record from the start

Capture from the beginning when the platform provides access to earlier footage.

Capture from now

Record from the current moment. Stop recording to save what has been captured.

08

Subtitles and editing

Subtitle tracks

Select subtitle languages to embed or save beside the file. Set a default format, Original, SRT, VTT or ASS, and change it for any download.

Translated subtitles

Load the translated captions YouTube offers for a video and save the languages you want as separate files. If a translation is refused, the video is still saved.

SponsorBlock

Set each segment category to Off, Mark or Remove. Use your saved choice, turn it off or set it differently for one download. It also works with chapter downloads.

Trim a clip

Set a start and end time to save the part you want.

Thumbnails and tags

Control cover art and source metadata separately. Cepther still adds its application stamp where the output format supports it.

Choose chapters

Pick the chapters you want from a video or audio download. Save only those, or keep the full file as well. Each chapter keeps its original number and title. Not available with a trim or a live recording.

Save the thumbnail

Save the source thumbnail as a separate image, with cover art controlled independently.

09

Extras

Save the parts of a link you want without downloading the media.

Thumbnails

Save a thumbnail in every real size the site offers, as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Media info

Save a link’s details, such as title, channel, dates, views, tags, chapters and description, as TXT, JSON or Markdown. Cookies and login headers are left out.

Comments

Save 100 to 800 comments, or all of them, with replies kept under the comment they answer. Sort by Top or Recent on YouTube and export as TXT or JSON.

Subtitles only

Save a video’s subtitle files without the video, as SRT, VTT or ASS, including translated captions when you ask for them.

10

Cookies and access

Use your existing access to supported sites.

Import cookies

Import a cookies.txt file, a JSON cookie export or a copied Cookie header, from a file or pasted. Cepther shows what it found before saving.

Create cookies in Cepther

Sign in through the built in browser to save cookies for that site.

Restricted content

Use cookies for content your account can access, where the source supports downloads. Cookies do not bypass subscriptions or DRM.

Local cookie storage

Cookie files stay on your computer. They are sent to the relevant source site when needed to authenticate a request.

Use a browser profile

Select a supported installed browser and profile as a cookie source. Cepther checks that the cookies can be read before saving it. Browser encryption or a locked profile can prevent access.

11

Files and history

Download folder

Files go to Downloads/Cepther by default. Choose another folder in Settings if you prefer.

Automatic organisation

Sort downloads into folders by platform, creator or media type.

Duplicate handling

Choose whether to skip existing files or keep another copy.

Download Archive

Turn it on to be asked before downloading something you already have, with when and where it was saved. A playlist asks once for the whole list.

Search history

Search downloaded files, open their folders, copy source links or download again.

Restart cancelled downloads

Start a cancelled download again from History. Resuming depends on the source and retained temporary files.

Filter history

Filter by media type, failed downloads or date, with search and pagination.

Failure details and retry

View the error and logs, copy them, or fetch the original link again to choose fresh download options.

Delete to Recycle Bin

Send downloaded files to the Windows Recycle Bin from History.

Chapter downloads

A chapter download is one History entry. Expand it to play, open or find each chapter, or play them all in order.

Export and import

Export History as JSON or CSV, and import a JSON export back. Entries you already have are merged instead of duplicated.

12

Privacy

No telemetry

Cepther has no usage analytics or advertising trackers.

No Cepther account

Use the app without registering an account or entering a licence key.

Incognito

Skip writing download history while Incognito is enabled.

Clear local data

Clear history and manage saved cookies, presets and settings from the app.

13

Power tools

Saved presets

Save commonly used options and apply them to another download.

Custom commands

Add supported download arguments and save command presets.

Search

Search settings and download history.

Engine updates

Check for and install download tool updates from Settings.

Notification panel

A bell in the title bar keeps a feed of finished and failed downloads, new uploads, the dock, the player and engine updates. Choose what it records, or turn it off.

14

Local media player

Open your files

Play a saved download from History, open a local media file or drop files into the player. Supported formats depend on the playback backend.

Playlist and playback

Queue files, drag them into a new order, move to the previous or next item, and choose whether the next file starts automatically.

Speed and sound

Change playback speed from 0.25× to 4×, select an audio track and choose an output device. Pitch preservation depends on backend support.

Chapters and repeat

Jump to a time or chapter and repeat a selected section with A–B repeat.

Subtitle controls

Select embedded or external subtitles, adjust their timing and customise text, background and position.

Picture in picture

Keep playback in a small floating window or switch to full screen.

Screenshots and file details

Save PNG frames at the source resolution, optionally including subtitles. Inspect the file’s media streams and metadata.

Keyboard controls

Use Space for play/pause, arrow keys for seeking and volume, M to mute and F for full screen. Seek and volume steps are configurable.

15

Local AI subtitles

Optional Whisper setup

Install the optional Whisper engine and a model, then generate captions from downloaded video or audio on your computer.

Language and translation

Detect the spoken language automatically or choose it yourself. Keep the original language or translate speech into English with a suitable model.

Embed or export

Add an AI subtitle track to supported video outputs and optionally keep an SRT caption file. Live recordings are excluded.

Still being tested

The latest development notes record engine and audio selection fixes. Successful transcription with a real model still needs full verification.

16

Maintenance

Manage download tools

Check versions, update one engine or update all, and revert an engine when a saved rollback archive is available.

Clean temporary files

Review and clear temporary download data and engine archives separately. Active and paused downloads are protected.

Schedule cleanup

Automatic cleanup is off by default. Set the interval and time when you enable it. Clearing engine archives removes the corresponding rollback copies.

Manage Whisper models

Download or delete optional models and choose a default from Settings → Maintenance.

17

Make it yours

Seven app themes

Choose Default Dark, Default Light, Midnight Cyan, Emerald Mint, Sunset Coral, Sapphire Slate or Obsidian Platinum.

Tray and startup

Keep Cepther in the system tray and choose whether it starts with Windows. Only one app instance runs at a time.

Notification sounds

Give each kind of notification its own sound: finished downloads, finished playlists, new uploads, the dock and failed downloads. Import your own or keep the Windows sound.

Player preferences

Set seek and volume steps, default playback speed, subtitle appearance and the screenshot folder.

A short introduction

The first launch opens a short tour that ends with tool setup. Open it again any time from the About page in Settings.
